Last day of the year!!

Sadly, today is the last day of Enrich for the year and I'm just going to tell you about the pluses, the minuses and the interesting things about this year.

Clay money boxes!!!

Hey blog readers,

Today at Enrich we painted our clay money boxes that we made a few weeks ago. I painted mine with the colours purple, light blue and white. Oh, I should have said what mine is. Well, it sort of is a despicable me minion but according to Willson, its a toaster! I don't really get how it's a toaster, but anyway. I was going to make an owl but I couldn't make the beak.

Today at Enrich we did thinkers keys rotation. The keys were the ridiculous key, the brainstorming key and the variations key. In the ridiculous key Katie (one of the Enrich teachers) read an impossible and strange statement and we had to come up with positive things about that statement. Some of them were: you only have one day of school a week, six year olds have drivers license and that the time zone is the same around the world. I also did brainstorming were you learn to brainstorm.

Today at Enrich we had a man come in to talked to us.  His name was Grant. He came to talk to us about Sea Shepherd. It is a environmental group who work to save whales and seals, and many other endangered sea animals but mostly whales. They try to stop the Japanese boats from killing endangered whales. The worst part is the Japanese are doing it for money and they don't even care about the environment!! But luckily Sea Shepherd is trying to stop them by throwing smoke bombs, stink bombs and other things to distract them. Sea Shepherds save around 800 whales a year!!

Today at Enrich we played chess and I lost against Destiny. Next we did passion time and I did claymation with Ella-rose and Samaria for the first time. Out of clay we made a person, cake, cupcakes, rubbish bin with rubbish in it and a table because we are doing a birthday party scene. The little girl that we made has a pet snail which I made. Today I am also going to design a garden because it is one of our picks. In it is going to be a pool, spa, trees, decking, grass and plants!

Today at Enrich we did Must Do's and Pick's. We haven't done it for over a term. I did affective domain with Alana. Affective domain is when you learn about yourself as a gifted individual. We watched two short video clips about a 12 year old called Adora Svitak. Adora was talking in America to tell adults to listen to kids. She said that kids can do big things and that adults shouldn't underestimate us just because we're kids.

Hi everyone,
Today at Enrich we did a technology challenge. We had to make a device to get out of a MacGyver trap. The task was for one person to stand in a square like it was dry concrete and that person had to throw your team's device to get a chisel and hammer and pull it back towards them. The other people had to hold your ankles so you don't move. We only had 15 minutes to construct our device and my team (Clara, Izzy and I) got the closest because we managed to move the chisel and hammer but not all the way to be able to grab it!

Today at Enrich we went to the City Council chambers to do our proposals to see if we are allowed to enhance Wachner Place. It took about an hour to present to the deputy Mayor Darren Ludlow and Bill who is the projects consultant and they really liked our ideas and the quality of our presentation and now we are waiting to hear what their decision will be.

Hi everyone,

Today at Enrich we did more of our environment projects. We finished our keynotes to go to the city council chambers next week!! In the keynote about murals, we had how we are going to do it, why we want to do it, what we are going to do and what it's going to look like. Last week we voted on two murals we wanted to paint on two walls in Wachner Place. We are going to have the murals on either side of the tilting ball maze. I am nervous but excited about going to the city council chambers.

Hi Tessa.

I think your group has made great progress on your idea of putting a mural in at Wachner Place.  It could certainly do with some colour and what you are proposing would do that well!  Next week, we need to walk back down to Wachner Place and double check that we all agree on the area to do it.  Then it is just a case of finishing off our Keynote to present to the Invercargill City Council.  The vairation of Bullseye today was great fun.  Your team made some really strong choices - encouraging each other after each throw - well done!  The clip on water pollution was certainly eye-opening.  What were you left wondering after seeing the clip?  Katie.

Hi everyone,
Today at Enrich we did a Wilson game. It was called bullseye. My team won! First we had four hoops apart in a line in front of you. Next get four beanbags and try to throw them in the hoops. Each person in the teams gets a go at throwing it. If you get it in it stays there and the next person has a go at the next hoop. The first team to get each hoop with a beanbag in it wins!!
We also played chess and I bet Natasha! We also did another round of high interest stations and I did psychics with Katie. We made egg parachutes but we got use what we wanted to make a parachute. I used a shopping bag and filled it with balloons and put the egg in the cup and tied it to the bag with balloons. Mine survived!!

Hi everyone,

Today at Enrich we did high interest stations. I did science with Katie. We made parachutes. First we had to choose our material. Then get a plastic cup and 4 pieces of string-the same length. Next we poked holes in the cup and put the string through the holes and tied it. After that we made holes in the material and put the other side of the string through it and tie it. Now for the fun part, get an egg and decorate it. Then put the egg in the cup. Next find a high place (like stairs) and let it go! Most of my group's parachutes survived-but some had a few cracks. 

Today at Enrich we did debating for the first time. Our debate was about whether  people under 18 should have Facebook pages. My team was why they should and the other team was why they shouldn't. Some of the reasons were that kids should have a social life, they can chat with friends near and far and it has lots of games. The teams got scored-halve a point for a reason and a whole point for a detailed reason. It was quite fun.

Today at Enrich we went to Wachner Place for our Environment concept curriculum. We had to think about what we could change about it. We could change the colours,  put new things in it or take things out. Some of the many ideas were to put a  giant chess set, brighter colours, picnic tables, rose garden and murals!

     

Hi everyone,

Today at enrich we made electrically circuits. We used batteries, wire, alligator clips, toilet roll, pie tins, tape, pencil leads and a jar. We used these things to make light. Two groups out of three succeeded, including mine. Firstly we taped the 8 batteries together. Next we tied alligator clips on the wire. Then we taped the wire to the toilet roll. Next we put that into the pie tin and put the pencil led in it. Then put the jar on top of it. Next put the other clips onto each side of the batteries and there should be light!

Hi everyone! Today at Enrich we designed murals. We had pieces of paper that had Southland icon on them. On my groups we had the water tower in the middle with Henry the tuatara sticking his head out the window. We also had the Waihopai river with some trout in it. We also had sheep, stag, kiwi, Takahe and many more. Then we coloured it in. It was so fun. :)

Today has been an exciting day at Enrich because we made ELEPHANT TOOTHPASTE. The materials we used were dish washing liquid, food colouring, yeast (to make it rise), hot water, gloves, beakers, spoons to mix and hydrogen peroxide. First we put the hydrogen peroxide in a test tube. Then we added the food colouring and mixed it. Next add the dish washing liquid. In the beaker put a tea spoon of yeast in it along with 3 table spoons of hot water and mix. Next pour the yeast into the test tube and TA-DA. They look amazing when they are finished.

Today at Enrich we did a term 2 2012 reflection. 

Here is a picture of mine. It will tell you how I think I have done at enrich so far this year. The thing I have liked best this term has been passion time. I have been working on writing my own book.

Photography!

Today at photography we did our static image. We also learnt to use a new editing software called photofunia. It is so fun!!! You can do so much things like put your self in backgrounds such as money,billboards and many more.Here are some of my photos.    

Tapa cloths!

Today at Enrich we did tapa cloths. A tapa cloth is a Pacific island cloth with marine life and plant life on it. It takes a lot of scrunching to make it feel and look like a cloth. Mine has jellyfish, turtles and flowers on it.First we had to plan it. Then do it in pencil. Then go over it in vivid. Scrunch and then dye.

Talent Development!

Today at Enrich we had another session of talent development. Today the photography group started doing our manipulated photos for the MADE awards. The MADE awards are Movie and Digital excellence. For mine I am putting my face into chess pieces. Other people are sitting on animals and flowers.

Passion time!

Today at Enrich we started passion time. Passion time is when you do something that you are passionate about. I am writing a novel called ''The girl heroes''!!It is about a group of girls who become spies and go on their first mission because they won a maths test for their school. The spy agency is called sunshine and they foil lightning (the bad spy agency's) plans. 

Queen's park!

Today at Enrich we went to Queen's park for photography.We visited the band rotunda, the duck pond, the play-ground and the castle. I took 141 photos of duck's, flowers, trees and water. My favourite photo is of a pink flower.Here is the photo of it.

CHESS!!

At Enrich we have been doing chess each week. In fact leader board chess. I know I have written about chess before but this time I am going to tell you a little bit more about chess. Firstly there are 16 players on each team on the board starting with rooks on each end, then knights, then bishops and finally the queen and king. Then a row of pawns in the front. We are learning to play the touch rule - which is when you touch a piece you have to move it. We are all are trying to get into the Enrich chess team so we can go to the chess tournament in Dunedin in June.

The world of wearable arts!

Today at Enrich we went to the wearable arts festival at the museum. They were made of wood, flax and lots of other materials. My favorite is a orange butterfly glow in the dark outfit.Also at enrich I did stack a cups and my highest score is 7 seconds.

My learning wheel

After morning tea at Enrich we did a reflection called the learning wheel. We did this to show the teachers at Enrich and the teachers at our school what we have been doing this term. Here is a picture of my learning wheel.

Photography

At Enrich we have been doing photoghaphy with Katie. It is really fun!!! Our photos are going to be going in the MADE AWARDS!  The MADE awards are the Movie and Digitial Excellence awards.  We have been looking at different types of photos.  This is one of my photos.  It is called THE SKY TREE.  The editing I have done, was to crop it a little to get rid of the sides of buildings that were in the image.

CHESS!!!!

At enrich we have been playing CHESS! Its so fun! Darryn has been holding some workshops and I have been going to them.Its been awesome learning different moves!!Chess is a mental edge game and it trains your brain.

Theatre Sports!

At enrich we have been doing theatre sports.Theatre sports is like drama.The type  of drama we were doing is when  you have two teams of two and each team has a prop.You have to make something with your prop.Some of the props were noodles,pink cleaner things and noodles with lollipops on the end.It was really fun!

Spanish fun!

At Enrich we've been learning Spanish with Paola.  We have been learning words that have a piece of English them, for example Orangutange = Orangutang.  We have also learned that some words have been borrowed from the English language, like golf.  I have enjoyed all of the Spanish learning so far!  I am hoping that I will learn to say a whole sentence in Spanish.
